From village to suburb
Today,
my home town of Rijswijk is nothing more than a suburb of The Hague and Delft. This was not always the case. The maps below show how Rijswijk
has grown from being largely agricultural to a dense mixture of housing and businesses, and now includes the scientific laboratories
of Royal Dutch Shell and the Dutch seat of the European Patent Office. The first picture is an ordinance survey map from 1911,
the second captures the same spot using Google Maps.
