North coast of Nusa Lembongan
All photos taken in July 2009 on the north coast
of Nusa Lembongan, a small island some 12km off the south coast of Bali, across the Badung Strait. The mountains in the distance are in east
Bali, the highest peak is Gunung Agung.
The tide is out and the beach dwellers are harvesting and drying seaweed, apparently
for export to Japan where it is used in the manufacture of cosmetics.
Just
beyond the seaweed farms, where the darker-coloured sea commences, are underwater cliffs with incredible coral reef banks,
habitat for tropical fish.
